Journalist and author Soner Yal?in was detained by police in Denizli early Sunday morning at a hotel where he was staying before an interview. According to reports, the police raided Yal?in's hotel room at 5:30 a.m. on the grounds that ?he did not testify in a case.? Yal?in has said that he is unaware of the case. The police said the Ankara 35th Criminal Court of First Instance ordered Yal?in's detention. The court reportedly could not reach Yal?in even though his contact information and home address are in the National Judiciary Informatics System (UYAP), the odatv website wrote. Yal?in, who works for the S?zc? daily and odatv website, was later released following an order from a prosecutor in Denizli. Later in the day, Bug?n daily columnist Adem Yavuz Arslan posted on Twitter that the journalist was detained in connection with a libel complaint he had filed against Yal?in and odatv. Arslan said Yal?in did not show up at court to testify. However, the Bug?n columnist condemned Yal?in's detention and the early morning raid. |
